Saturday football: Macleod double gives Tulips fine win, Pinchbeck and Tigers both beaten

Two goals from leading scorer Jordan Macleod gave Spalding United a 2-0 win over Sporting Khalsa on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United went down 4-3 at Melton Town and Holbeach United lost 4-1 at Eastwood.

Starting at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, Brett Whaley’s Tulips ended their two-game losing streak in the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division with the best result of his short reign so far.

With striker Gregg Smith back in the fold after his loan spell at Grantham Town, Spalding took a first-half lead when Macleod netted on 32 minutes.

The hitman then added his second ten minutes from time to settle the contest, giving the Tulips a ninth win of the season as they stay 12th.

In the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North, two goals from Kyle Onyon and a Harry Peasgood strike couldn’t stop Pinchbeck losing a cracker at Melton.

The Knights actually went ahead early on, but goals from Cameron Gilchrist (13), Zak Munton (28 and 52) and Cameron Smith (43) did have the hosts 4-1 ahead at one point.

With Selston picking up a 1-1 draw against Leicester Nirvana, Lewis Thorogood’s Knights are now just a point clear of the drop zone having played four games more.

Below them both, Holbeach United remain adrift at the foot after their 17th loss from 20 league games this season.

Doubles from Ben Henderson (6 and 70) and Nathan Kelly (64 and 73) gave Eastwood all three points, with Holbeach still without a win in all competitions this season.

Meanwhile, Moulton Harrox racked up a 13-0 win at Crowland Town Reserves in the ChromaSport PDFL League Cup as Josh Ford scored his third hat-trick in as many games.

However, it was Declan Earth who stole the show with a five-goal haul at Snowden Field, while Joe Townsend (2), Ian Bradbury (2) and Josh McGuire completed the rout.

It’s also now an incredible eight clean sheets in a row for Harrox and keeper Ant Murphy.
