Saturday football: Jack back with a hat-trick as Tigers go fourth, Pinchbeck game off and Tulips drop to 17th

Jack Smith helped himself to a hat-trick on his Holbeach United return as the Tigers battled back to beat hosts Northampton ON Chenecks on Saturday.

On another day hit by postponements due to the weather, the Tigers looked set for a long day when they fell 2-0 down early on at Billing Road.

But Smith, re-signed from Pinchbeck United last week, led the charge as Holbeach roared back in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division clash.

He netted three times to put Danny Hussey’s side ahead, before winger Billy Smith rounded off the win before half-time.

The victory sends Holbeach up into fourth place in the table as they leapfrog South Holland rivals Pinchbeck United.

That’s after the Knights saw their fixture at Peterborough Norther Star postponed. The heavy wind caused damage to Star’s ground and it wasn’t deemed safe enough for action.

Spalding United had a scheduled weekend off, but dropped one place to 17th in Evo-Stik NPL East Division. They remain three points clear of the one and only relegation position.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, Holbeach United Reserves held table-topping Moulton Harrox to a 1-1 draw at Carter’s Park.

William Barnes netted a late leveller for the Tigers, who had been behind since the first half thanks to Joe Townsend’s strike.

Also in the top tier, Sutton Bridge United lost a nine-goal thriller at Oakham United 5-4.
