Saturday football: Holbeach United smash Buckingham for six, ten-man Spalding United out of FA Trophy

Holbeach United cruised into the last eight of the ChromaSport UCL Knockout Cup on Saturday with a 6-0 win at Buckingham Town – but Spalding United crashed out of the Buildbase FA Trophy with a 2-1 defeat at Chasetown.

The Premier Division Tigers booked a quarter-final date with second tier Harrowby United by thrashing  UCL Division One outfit Buckingham, with Mitch Griffiths (2), Joe Smith (2), George Zuerner and Cameron Gow all on-target.

Holbeach are back in league action on Tuesday night when they visit Wellingborough Town (7.45pm).

Meanwhile, Spalding’s poor form in knockout competitions continued as Evo-Stik NPL First Division South rivals Chasetown dumped them out of the FA Trophy.

Muziwandile Nduna (12) put the hosts ahead, only for Gary King to level on 41 minutes.

However, it took Danny Cocks less than 60 seconds to put Chasetown back ahead with what turned out to be the winner.

Worse was to follow in the second half, with Jamie Jackson sent off for Chris Rawlinson’s side.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox were held to a 2-2 home draw by Whittlesey Athletic at Broad Lane, while Holbeach United Reserves lost 5-1 at ICA Sports.
