Saturday football: Holbeach United pay the penalty in draw, more cup success for Moulton Harrox

Holbeach United slipped to fourth in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division table on Saturday after dropping points at home to Wellingborough Town.

While nearest rivals Yaxley, Newport Pagnell Town and Wisbech Town were all smashing six goals in wins, the Tigers were held to a 1-1 draw by the Doughboys at Carter’s Park.

After a goalless first period that saw Wellingborough have Nathanael Ansu sent off just before the break, Holbeach finally broke the deadlock through a Danny Brooks free-kick on 56 minutes.

However, the Tigers were pegged back when Justin Dowling levelled from the penalty spot 17 minutes from time following an Adam Jackson foul.

Worse was to follow for Seb Hayes’ side, with Matt Warfield shown a red card late on.

The draw leaves Seb Hayes’ side four points behind leaders Yaxley, although they do have three games in hand.

Meanwhile, Division One leaders Pinchbeck United saw their game at S&L Corby postponed.

Second-placed Raunds Town came from 3-1 down against Bourne Town to win 5-3 and cut the Knights’ lead to seven points.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox booked their place in the last four of the PFA Senior Cup with a 3-2 victory over Deeping Rangers Reserves at Broad Lane.

But Long Sutton Athletic bowed out after losing 3-2 at home to Netherton United.

In Division One, leaders Moulton Harrox Reserves battered Netherton Reserves 12-1 to move seven points clear.
