Roberts refuses to play the blame game after nine-man Holbeach are hammered

Leicester Nirvana 7
Holbeach United 0

Player/boss Tom Roberts refused to criticise his Holbeach United side after seeing them suffer their heaviest loss of the season on Tuesday night.

Jamie Stevens and Josh Ford were both sent off as Holbeach  were handed a thumping 7-0 defeat at ChromaSport UCL Premier Division leaders Leicester Nirvana.

Both players were given straight red cards for professional fouls in the first half as the Tigers suffered a seventh defeat on the spin.

The Nirvana goals came from Matt Melbourne (20, 68 and 87), Shaquille Master (44 and 56), Reece Morris (51) and Jordan Nelson (65) at Gleneagles Avenue.

Roberts accepted that it was a horrible night for his side, but refused to blame his players. It was the second match in a second successive four-game week for Holbeach – and Roberts took a patched up side to Leicester.

“We did OK with 11 men,” said the Tigers chief. “Even with ten I thought we were still in the game.

“But once Fordy was sent off and they scored a second, we knew it’d be like the Alamo.

“I’m sure people will have plenty to say about the scoreline, but they don’t know how hard it has been over the past few weeks.

“The players that travelled did their all for the club and I can’t ask any more than that.”

Holbeach drop to seventh place in the table as a result. They host Wisbech Town (Thursday, 7.45pm) and Kirby Muxloe (Saturday, 3pm) in their final two league games before Monday’s UCL Knockout Cup final against Peterborough Sports.

Tigers: Roberts, Ford, Shepherd, Stevens, A Jackson, Newcombe, Davies, Jon Smith (Russon), Gale, Clitheroe, Keeble.

Attendance: 43
