Recognition for PHAB couple

A Spalding couple have won the Community Leadership category in Lincolnshire County Council’s annual Good Citizens Awards.

Andrew and Heather Inkley lead the Spalding PHAB (physical disabled and able bodied) group for around 70 people with and without disabilities, “to make more of life together”.

It meets twice a month and organises outings and holidays for its members.

“So many local people have benefited from the hard work and time this amazing couple give to brighten our lives,” said member Darren Stanley who nominated them. “Andy and Heather make us feel like part of a big family.”

Andrew has been involved since 1985, with Heather joining nine years later. They fit their voluntary work around running a shop, driving a minibus to take people to meetings and social occasions.

They also keep the group going by holding fundraising events, including suppers and car boot sales, and collecting with the Spalding Lions and South Holland Rotary Club Santa sleigh runs.

Lincolnshire County Council leader, Coun Martin Hill said: “This year’s winners are truly inspirational, and make a huge difference to their community through their unstinting commitment. I would like to thank everyone who took the time to tell us about their unsung heroes.”
