Pumpkin festival proves popular

Orange was very much the colour of the weekend in Spalding when everything pumpkin was celebrated.

The town was buzzing on Saturday when ‘Pumpkin Street’ was up and running with more than a nod to Halloween.

Local artist Jonathan Nichols was displaying his amazing pumpkin carvings while craft activities, live entertainment and food stalls were also on offer to visitors.

The South Holland Centre also got involved and gave a one-off showing of the 1950s classic Disney film Cinderella.

Children had the chance to meet the main character in person. Polka Dot Pantomimes were able to provide Cinderella specially for the occasion.

Town centre traders decorated their windows as part of the pumpkin weekend and the Rock School Bus was also on hand.

The Methodist Church in Broad Street also took part, with a craft and coffee morning as part of the celebrations.

“It proved to be a great success, bringing the community together in a positive and vibrant way, making Spalding the place to be, ” said Coun Gary Taylor, portfolio holder for communities and facilities. He also thanked everyone involved.

A Light Night event, with displays and a fire garden at Ayscoughfee Gardens on Friday evening was sold-out.
