Pre-season: Whitehead winner for Spalding United, high five for Moulton Harrox

Spalding United’s unbeaten pre-season continued on Tuesday night with a 1-0 victory at Harrowby United.

A solitary strike from Nathan Whitehead, who headed home a cross from Matthew Varley, was enough for Dave Frecklington’s side against their ChromaSport UCL Premier Division hosts.

The Tulips face more UCL opposition on Saturday when they visit Yaxley (3pm).

Meanwhile, Moulton Harrox kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 5-2 victory at Oundle Town.

Goals from Billy King, Joe Townsend, Bobby Patterson, Josh Parris and new singing Danny Maddison (penalty) gave PDFL Premier Division champions Harrox a routine win.

They are back in action on Friday night when they face Langtoft United in the Jack Hogg Memorial Shield at Yaxley (7.30pm).

Elsewhere, Long Sutton Athletic beat Spalding Town 6-0 at London Road.

Jonny Allen (2), player/co-boss Matt Cawthorn, Harry Hagon, Joe Harrison and Ant Melton bagged for the Magpies – who responded well to a half-time telling off from Cawthorn and fellow co-chief Billy Radeloff.

Pinchbeck United’s scheduled clash with Peterborough Northern Star was called off.
