Police investigate cat shaving spree

South Holland police are investigating a strange case of cats returning home with shaved patches.

A number of owners have reported their pets returning home with missing fur – although otherwise unhurt.
Most of the cases have been in the Pinchbeck area, although there has been a case in Kirton.
“This behaviour is completely unacceptable. Whatever the motivation behind this, it is not something that should be taking place,” said Insp Matt Dickinson.
“The cats in question are someone’s pet, part of their family and not only will these actions cause anxiety to the animal, they also cause worry to their owners,” he added.
There is no clue as to the reason behind the incidents.
“Anyone who is evidenced to be responsible for doing this will have robust action taken against them and where necessary be prosecuted for any criminal offences identified,” said Insp Dickson.
“Anyone who finds something has happened to their cat is encouraged to report this to the police. This will enable a picture of behaviours to be identified and help with any additional investigations,” he said.
South Holland Police shared information on the Facebook page, where comments suggested that there had been previous episodes.
“This happened to my cat in Pinchbeck around seven years ago,” said one response, while another said it happened to her pet about three years ago.
