Plenty of hunger for workshops

Sessions teaching people how to cook so they don’t spend so much money on food are proving so successful in Holbeach they are being rolled out in Spalding as well.

The sessions are being laid on by Tonic Health and came about after conversations between the Community Connectors the South Holland charity works with and the Agape food bank.
One of the connectors Jo Ireland said: “Sessions had previously been running at Holbeach Hub at the beginning of the year and had got steadily more popular so we decided to offer the same in Spalding after they had finished.
“Support from South Holland District Council’s Household Support Fund and Multiply will have allowed for over 30 of the weekly cookery sessions to have taken place by the end of July.”
Adult sessions are currently being held on a Tuesday between 1pm and 3pm until June 25 and anyone interested can book remaining sessions by sending an email to spalding
[email protected] or calling 01775 725059.
Anyone attending more than two sessions will also receive a grocery voucher and slow cooker.
There is also an opportunity for young people to join in the fun and learn some important culinary skills at the Youth cookery classes (for ages 12 to 17 years) running from Tuesday, June 4 until July 16 between 4pm and 6pm. These also require booking.
“It isn’t only food cooking at the sessions,” said Jo. “It’s about learning cost-effective ways to eat healthily, gaining essential life skills and enjoying a hearty meal after the class.
“All classes are free to attend , ensuring they are accessible to all who wish to join.”
