A Hollywood star is on his way to inspire an amateur theatre group.
That’s the premise of St Nicolas Players’ latest production A Bunch of Amateurs.
They’ll be performing the play by Ian Hislop and Nick Chapman at the South Holland Centre from March 16 to 19.
A spokesman for the group said: “To boost his flagging career, fading Hollywood action hero Jefferson Steele arrives in England to play King Lear in Stratford – but it isn’t the birthplace of the Bard, but a sleepy Suffolk village.
“And instead of Kenneth Branagh and Dame Judi Dench, the cast are a bunch of amateurs trying to save their theatre.
“Jefferson’s monstrous ego, vanity and insecurity are tested to the limit by the enthusiastic am-dram thespians.
“As acting worlds collide and Jefferson’s career implodes, he discovers some truths about himself – along with his inner Lear!
“This is a comic romp, where acting worlds collide, and American realism meets English mellifluence.”
Adam Patman is playing Hollywood hero Jefferson in the adaptation directed by Jules Jones and produced by Joanna Hobbs.
Doors are open at 7pm every night from Wednesday March 16 to the final performance on Saturday, March 19.
Tickets are available from the South Holland Centre box office.
* Meanwhile the group’s AGM takes place on Tuesday, February 22 at 7pm (doors open 6.45pm) at the Spalding Social and Sports Club.
The social club bar will be open for refreshments but you can bring your own if you wish.
A spokesman said: “You will get the opportunity to hear about the past year, our triumphs over COVID restrictions, and what we have planned for the next theatrical and social season.
“If you feel you would like to help navigate our society forward into the future, we are always looking for new members and supporters, so whether you want to tread the boards, join the committee, help backstage or just come along and watch the show, you will always find a warm welcome waiting for you.”
