Three goals in the final 16 minutes saw Pinchbeck United come from 2-0 down to defeat Harrowby United 3-2 in the KitmanUK League Cup first round on Tuesday.
The Knights, who have a wretched recent history in all cup competitions, looked set to suffer more misery when, after a goalless first half, Uhlsport UCL Division One side Harrowby raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to quick-fire goals from Billy Stubbs (54)and David Kolapo (56).
But Pinchbeck refused to accept defeat and began their comeback when Eugine Francis netted his first goal for the club from the penalty spot on 74 minutes.
Defender Dan Worthington then levelled the tie at 2-2 on 79 minutes with a rare goal.
That set-up a grand-stand final ten minutes – and it was UCL Premier Division outfit Pinchbeck who grabbed a late winner when Patrik Kacirek’s 87th-minute delivery was nodded into the net by talisman Ollie Maltby.
It’s back to league action for the Knights on Saturday as they make the trip to Northampton ON Chenecks (3pm).
A tough start to the season has seen Ian Dunn’s side win just one of their opening six UCL Premier Division games so far – but Chenecks are one of the three teams to be currently beneath them in the table and are yet to win a game.
