Pinchbeck United still hunting for second place after Dunn double at Stanground

Pinchbeck United’s charge for second place in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division continued on Saturday with a 3-1 victory at AFC Stanground.

Striker Louis Sae-Be rifled Ian Dunn’s side into a 1-0 lead at In2itive Park following great set-up play from Tony Edwards.

Player/boss Dunn then made it 2-0 before half time with a header from Mark Thompson’s cross, before adding his second with a fine finish into the top corner from the edge of the box.

A late cracker earned the hosts a consolation, but it failed to take the gloss off a fine Pinchbeck win. With their rivals for second place still having to play each other, Dunn feels that maximum points from their final four games should be enough.

He said: “We got the job done on Saturday. It was all about the three points.

“We took our chances well and deserved to be 2-0 up at half time. The third killed it, but they did score an absolute cracker to be fair.

“If we’d have lost here, the derby win over Moulton Harrox would have counted for nothing.

“All of the lads are playing for each other at the moment and we’re simply turning up and winning games well.

“With the way the fixtures are, maximum points from our last four games could well end up getting us second place.

“That’s the simple aim – win all of our games.”

Pinchbeck host Leverington Sports on Tuesday night (6.30pm), then visit Uppingham Town on Saturday (2pm).

Pinchbeck: Ashton, Thompson, Gardner, A Murrell, B Murrell, Bishop, Francis, Ogden, Sae-Be, Dunn, Edwards. Subs used: Brown, Lawrence, Withers.
