Pinchbeck United eye FA Vase landmark ahead of clash with rivals Deeping Rangers

Boss Lewis Thorogood feels his Pinchbeck United squad will be up for the challenge of beating South Lincolnshire rivals Deeping Rangers in the FA Vase on Saturday.

The Knights, full of confidence after last Saturday’s 5-0 win over Selston, will host the second round qualifying clash at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing FIeld (3pm).

The winners will book a place in the first round proper – something Pinchbeck have never achieved in their history.

“A few people have said to me that we should be favourites given Deeping’s form,” said Thorogood. “I don’t buy into that at all.

“Deeping are a good side with a good experienced squad.

“They’ve had some tough results – but we know as well as anybody how that can happen.

“I’d expect the game to be quite tentative in its approach, with both teams wanting to reap the rewards of reaching the next round.

“It should be a good game and we’re really looking forward to it.

“From our point of view, we’re confident after last weekend and we have a fully-fit squad to pick from.

“It’s always nice to add money to the club and that’s what the FA Vase can do, but it’s all about the result for us.”

Meanwhile, both teams agreed that the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North fixture between the two sides scheduled for last night (Wednesday) should be called off.

Pinchbeck also visit Potton United in the Hinchingbrooke Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm)
