Pilgrim Hospital treating two with Covid-19

Two people are confirmed to have Covid-19 and are being treated at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston where patient visiting has been suspended.

The United Lincolnshire Hospitals (ULH) Trust, which oversees that hospital and those at Lincoln, Louth and Grantham say it’s caring for three people confirmed with the virus. The other patient is being treated in Lincoln.

A spokesman for ULH Trust, said: “We can confirm that we are treating three patients with confirmed COVID-19 in our hospitals.

“Two are being cared for at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston and the third is at Lincoln County Hospital.

“Every infection prevention precaution is being taken, including caring for these patients in isolation.

“Our staff caring for the patients are trained and equipped to do so safely.

“Patients with outpatient and inpatient appointments should still come to hospital unless they have a new-onset cough or fever, which case they should follow national guidance on self-isolation and contact the number on their appointment letter to cancel.

We would encourage people to visit www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-“covid-19 for the latest information on COVID-19, to find out what the symptoms are and how to help prevent the spread.

“Everyone has a role to play in helping to prevent the spread of infection. Please help by following the public health advice:

·         Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.

·         Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.

·         Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

·         Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.”

On patient visiting a statement on the ULHT website, said: “As part of our work to prevent the spread of coronavirus and to protect our patients and staff from becoming seriously ill, we have made the difficult decision to suspend all visiting to our wards at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, Lincoln County Hospital and Grantham and District Hospital with immediate effect.

“For further information see the news pages of our website.”

On Friday King’s Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth II Hospital said two of the five people it was treating with Covid-19 had died.
