Skegness Town 1 Pinchbeck United 1
A late Harry Peasgood strike earned Pinchbeck United a deserved 1-1 draw at Skegness Town on Monday.
The Knights trailled for much of the game at the Vertigo Stadium as Gary King fired the hosts into an 18th-minute lead.
But Pinchbeck are made of sterner stuff than in previous seasons and snatched a point in the second minute of added time through the in-form Peasgood.
The dramatic draw leaves Lewis Thorogood’s side 12th in the early Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North standings ahead of Saturday’s home date with seventh-placed Newark and Sherwood United (3pm).
“It was our ninth game in August and it showed,” admitted boss Thorogood. “I thought we looked tired out there.
“In the end, we came away very happy to get something out of the game.
“The lads put in a real shift and, despite looking leggy, kept on going to get that late goal.
“I think it’s another one of those games that we would have perhaps got nothing from last season, truth be told.
“We can be happy with our start to the season. Winning in both the FA Cup and FA Vase and having seven points on the board after five games in the league is very pleasing.
“It’s a good start, but we now need to kick on.”
Thorogood’s Knights now have their sights set on Newark and Sherwood, who sit two points and five places better off than them in the early table.
The boss is hopeful that he’ll have a full squad fit for the Sir Halley clash.
“If we get nothing from this game it negates our hard work at Skegness,” added Thorogood. “I know that Newark and Sherwood have had to do a big rebuild job.
“We’ll give it a good go like we always do, it’s certainly a game we can get something from.
“We’ll also have a few players back, so I’m hoping to be at full strength.
“Our form has been good and we should have the confidence to go out there and get a result.”
