PDFL round-up: Moulton Harrox on cloud nine after Towsend strike sinks Thorney

Joe Townsend headed a second-half winner to keep table-topping Moulton Harrox unbeaten in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division on Saturday.

The Harrox ace bagged his ninth goal of the season on Saturday as they won 1-0 at Thorney to make it nine wins from as many games for Kev Nottingham’s side.

They are now nine points clear of the chasing pack – and were awarded the PDFL team of the month prize for August.

Also in the top flight, Holbeach United Reserve defeated hosts Long Sutton Athletic 3-1 in a South Holland derby.

Jonny Allen (2) and Cal Davies grabbed the goals for the Tigers, who are fifth in the table. Davy Shepherd notched for the Magpies.

Staying in the Premier Division, Sutton Bridge United went down 3-0 at ICA Sports and are 12th.

In Division One, champions Moulton Harrox Reserves were handed a big 7-0 beating at Uppingham Town.

The game between Spalding Town and Wittering Harriers in the same division was abandoned.

Down in Division Two, both Spalding Athletic and Whaplode Drove are still seeking their first wins of the season.

Athletic were seen off 3-2 at home by Netherton United Reserves, while Drove were drubbed 5-1 by visitors Stilton United.

Meanwhile, Holbeach Bank recorded their first win of the Division Three season. They beat hosts FC Peterborough Reserves 4-2, with Dom Easey (2), Gavin Phillips and Warren Skeels the scorers.

It wasn’t such a good day for Long Sutton Athletic, who were hammered 7-0 at Whittlesey Athletic A.

In Division Four, goals from Taylor Beveridge and Kyle Compton steered Holbeach United Sports to a 2-1 victory over FC Parson Drive Reserves.

But the game of the day in the division saw Tydd Reserves draw a thriller at Parkside 4-4.

It was an amazing comeback from Tydd, who came back from 4-1 down at half-time thanks to strikes from Tim Lowe (2), Jason Bradshaw and Kevin Smith.
