PDFL round-up: Long Sutton are back in the Premier Division…but suffer Tydd tonking

Long Sutton Athletic are celebrating after clinching promotion to the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division on Saturday.

Goals from Connor Bell, Eric Makate, Liam O’Connor and Martin Ward fired the Magpies to a 4-0 success at Netherton United Reserves in Division One and secured Omar Joof’s side a welcome return to the top tier.

Tydd St Mary, who also clinched promotion to the Premier Division last week, were 3-0 winners over Kings Cliffe thanks to goals from Alan Burch and top scorer Jake Clitheroe (2).

The two sides also met on Tuesday night, with Tydd romping to an emphatic 4-0 victory as Clitheroe got four more to take his tally for the season to an amazing 60.

Staying in Division One, champions Moulton Harrox Reserves cruised to a 4-0 victory at Stamford Belvedere. John Ball, Dalius Kisla, Bobby Patterson and Louis Steadman got the goals.

Up in the top flight, Moulton Harrox suffered back-to-back defeats against title rivals Netherton United to leave them with an uphill task in the race for silverware.
After a 3-0 away loss last Wednesday, they went down 2-1 at home on Saturday.

First-half goals from Zack Fisher and Tom Randall gave table-topping Netherton the points – although Matt Watkin did haul Harrox level at one point at Broad Lane.

Moulton did at least beat Warboys Town 3-0 on Monday night to move back within seven points of the summit, with a game in hand. Reserve team regulars Martin Sandall (2) and Dec Earth netted.

Also in the Premier Division, a Cal Davies strike and an own goal steered Holbeach United Reserves to a 2-0 victory over Langtoft United to make it five wins on the spin for Phil Barnes’ side.

In Division Two, Spalding United Reserves picked up a 1-0 victory at FC Peterborough to edge clear of the drop zone. But Spalding Town lost 3-1 at Bretton North End.

There was an 8-1 loss for Holbeach Bank at Brotherhood Sports in Division Three.

Down in Division Four, Long Sutton Reserves and Holbeach United A suffered 3-0 home defeats against Stamford Lions A and Orton respectively.
