Holbeach United Reserves edged out rivals Wisbech Town Reserves 2-1 in a high-profile ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division derby on Saturday.
First-half goals from Tom Gosling and veteran midfielder Steve Barnes got the job done for Omar Joof’s Tigers, who fended off a comeback when Samuel Cubberley netted for the Fenmen.
There was also an eye-catching top flight win for Crowland Town, who saw off hosts Langtoft United to register their third win of the season.
Pawel Podlinski and Simkus Virginijus were the match-winners for the men from Snowden Field.
Down in Division One, Moulton Harrox Reserves made it six wins from six by thrashing hosts Baston 8-1. Declan Earth led the way with a treble for Kev Nottingham’s charges, while Daniel Lambe-Hyner (2), John Ball (2) and sub Lee Hudson also bagged.
Harrox’s second string sit top of the table as a result.
They’ve replaced Sutton Bridge United, who slipped to third after a 0-0 draw at Whittlesey Reserves.
At the other end of the table, Spalding United Reserves remain bottom after being crushed 14-0 at Glinton and Northborough.
Down in Division Two, Crowland Town Reserves romped to a 3-0 home success over Stanground Sports Reserves.
Jack Gale, Jordan Kirchin and Simon Acton all notched to fire Crowland up to sixth.
Tydd St Mary are fourth after they drew 2-2 at Netherton United A. Tim Lowe was their hero with goals in either half.
Meanwhile, two goals from Tomas Ragelis helped Spalding Town draw 3-3 at Parkway Eagles. Matt Cannon was the other scorer for Town, who are seventh.
Further down the table, Pinchbeck United Reserves are still looking for their first league win after slipping to a 1-0 home loss against Stamford Lions Reserves.
In Division Three, two goals from Martin Baker couldn’t stop Sutton Bridge Reserves from being thrashed 7-3 at home by Farcet United.
Holbeach Bank are fourth in Division Four after winning 2-0 at Stanground Sports B. Lee Smith and Gav Phillips bagged for them.
However, Long Sutton Reserves lost 4-0 at Cardea and Tydd St Mary Reserves lost by the same score at home to Premiair.
In Division Five, Holbeach A hammered King’s Cliffe Reserves 8-0. Dan Bergin bagged a treble, with Tom Cherry (2), Chris Hall, Taylor Beveridge and Scott Burrell the other scorers. Cherry was also sent off.
