Pat purring as Spalding United agree terms with Millson

Pat Rayment reckons Spalding United are getting a unique talent after agreeing terms with Wisbech Town midfielder Adam Millson.

The former Boston United and Stamford ace, who had a brief loan spell with the Tulips under Richard Scott back in 2009, reached an agreement in principle with Rayment on Thursday.

One of the key cogs in Wisbech’s super UCL Premier Division season last year, central midfielder Millson was also a part of Tom Roberts’ quadruple-winning Pinchbeck United Sunday squad.

Having lost Chris Hall and Jack McGovern to Lincoln United, Rayment needed a marquee midfield signing. And in Millson, he reckons that he’s getting a player like no other he’s brought to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field before.

“I’m very, very pleased to have signed Adam,” said the Spalding supremo. “He’s a player I know well, having worked with him during my time at Stamford.

“He’s a young lad and very busy in midfield. Talking to a number of UCL bosses, I’m told he bossed games last year.

“He wants to play higher and we’re happy to offer him that. He’s a replacement for Chris Hall, but not exactly the same type of player.

“Adam’s a natural ball player and gives us something we’ve never had – he’s a unique talent. He’ll keep things ticking over in midfield and will run games for us.

“With a rejuvenated Lewis Webb, a very tall and physical Sam Murphy and the industrious Dan Banister also in midfield, I’m very excited about our options.

“We’ll have great balance and a youthful look. To be honest, I’m the most excited about the squad I have been since we first started here.

“Things are changing here. We’re not spending the big money we used to, but are attracting very good players.

“We’re taking things to a new level and have plenty more players on our radar.”

Rayment is also speaking to a “top striker” today (Friday) and hopes to strike a deal with him as he bids to add experience to his front line.

He’ll also be looking for a new defender, with Nathan Stainfield ruled out until at least September with tendinitis in both knees and shoulder ligament damage.
