Parking restrictions passed

Parking restrictions are to be bought in on part of a Weston Hills road, despite objections from members of the public.

Following a request by the local parish council, Lincolnshire County Council is placing 24-hour no waiting measures on Broadgate between the junctions with Carisbrooke Way and St John’s Road.
It follows concerns staff are parking there to work for a nearby business and causing visibility issues for people turning into the road.
Two objections were received from residents.
Their reasons included the parking being displaced on to side streets, while another requested the restrictions be made further along the road.
But at Monday’s meeting of Lincolnshire County Council’s Planning and Regulation Committee, councillors voted through the proposals.
The report from Andy Gytherson, executive director of place, said: “The small amounts of restriction proposed will not result in significant displacement of parked vehicles.
“A further extension as requested will result in the loss of two parking spaces on Broadgate and will not be necessary in terms of maintaining visibility at the nearby junction.
“The restrictions proposed are the minimum required to achieve the aim of the scheme which is to maintain visibility at junctions in the area, and will result in little impact in term of parking, in the surrounding area.”
Coun Tom Smith said: “It’s a very sad state as when you’re taught to drive you’re told you’re not to park within so many feet of junctions, because it’s a motoring offence, but that seems to fall on deaf ears these days.
“Not only is it a hindrance it’s very dangerous if you’re trying to use the junction.”
Coun Tom Ashton said: “A look at Google Maps shows that if there is parking on Carisbrooke Way and St John’s Road instead then there is plenty of room without it being an imposition on the local community.”
