A Spalding convenience shop has been refused temporary licences to sell alcohol for two week-long ‘events.’
Members of the licensing panel of South Holland District Council made the decision on Monday afternoon.
Three temporary event notice applications were made by Helmat Hilmi for the store Nida Express on Winsover Road.
It proposed to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises for around a week starting today (November 3) and running to November 9.
Another proposal from the applicant was from Friday, November 11 to Thursday, November 17.
There was also a third application which was submitted too late as it related to dates in October, and the council served a counter notice to prevent the event taking place.
The requested time for the sales started at 6am and ended at midnight or 1am at the store which is the former Brennan’s Bar.
The applications also said the maximum number of people in the store at the time of any sales would be 50.
Lincolnshire police submitted objections to the applications on licensing objectives of the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety and public nuisance.
Members of the panel met on Monday and agreed there was concern relating to crime and disorder, public safety and public nuisance.
“The panel considers that there is a lack of knowledge of the notice giver as to the hours and duration of the notice that he has given. This could in turn lead to the notice giver committing an offence under the Licensing Act.”
There was no further details of the ‘events’ or what they related to.
The report before members also indicated that Mr Hilmi was hoping for a permanent licence for the sale of alcohol.
