Lewis Thorogood offered no excuses after seeing his Spalding United side suffer a 3-0 home reverse against Chasetown on Tuesday night.
The Tulips, who slip to 16th in BetVictor NPL South East Division as a result of the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field reverse, are now on a run of six games without a victory.
The scoreline was perhaps a little harsh on Spalding, who fell behind ten minutes before the break when Jimmy O’Neill expertly backheeled the ball into the net from a corner.
George Cater then bagged a late double (84 & 87) to seal the points for the visitors – although the Tulips were angry his first was allowed to stand, given that Kegan Everington was down with a head injury.
Interim boss Thorogood said: “We started the first half very slowly and the first goal we conceded was very sloppy; it was simple defending really.
“We had a chat a half-time and decided to change to a 4-4-2 and we looked much more solid. We also had the majority of the possession in the second half and were camped in their half for 25 or 30 minutes, but the truth of the matter is that we didn’t really create anything.
“If I’m honest, we never looked like scoring, which is disappointing.
“The scoreline probably looks worse than it should have done. For their second goal Kegan Everington was hit in the face and went down, but the officials waved play on and they scored.
“We then lost our heads a bit and conceded another late goal. At this level, you get punished for that kind of thing.
“I’m not one to make excuses and never will be, but the financial restrictions and behind-the-scenes issues are affecting the players a little.
“We’ve got nine games to go and will do our best to turn things around, but we’ve not got it easy.”
