Nice and three-sy for Pinchbeck United as Knights seal second place with Sawtry success

A comfortable 3-0 win over Sawtry on Saturday was enough for Pinchbeck United to wrap up second place in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division.

Goals from Tom Brooks, player/boss Ian Dunn and a Tyler Wright penalty were enough for Pinchbeck at Knights Street, against a Sawtry side that had a player sent off in the second half.

Dunn admitted that it wasn’t the best performance from his side, but was happy to secure second place ahead of two big cup finals in the space of four days (Friday and Monday night).

He also took the chance to congratulate champions Peterborough Sports Reserves.

“It was job done really,” said Dunn. “It wasn’t a fantastic performance, but we did enough.

“We probably could have scored a few more, but once it went to 3-0 and they had a player sent off, it’s only natural that we took our foot off the gas a little.

“It was all about wrapping up second as soon as possible and we’ve done that.

“We weren’t clinical enough, but we’ll now get the chance to rest a few players ahead of the two cup finals, which is key.

“Congratulations to the champions. Peterborough Sports Reserves have beaten us twice in the league this season and the table doesn’t lie.”

Pinchbeck have a dead rubber home date with Langtoft United at Knight Street tonight (6.30pm).

Dunn hopes that top scorer Ollie Maltby will get a run-out in a bid to prove his fitness ahead of the finals.

Pinchbeck: Martin, Gordan, B Murrell, Smith, Brooks, Bishop, Shipley, Wright, Ogden, Edwards, Dunn. Subs used: Eyes, Gardner, Lawe.

Attendance: 41.
