New pay machines costing a total of £88,500 have been installed in South Holland car parks.
It comes after the recent rise in the cost of parking in the district.
In total there’s two machines erected in Spalding’s Herring Lane, Victoria Street and Winfrey Avenue car parks as well as Holbeach’s Boston Road one.
A single machine has been installed in Vine Street, Holland Road, Sheep Market, Westlode Street, the Castle Sports Swimming Pool and Vista car parks in Spalding.
A spokesman for South Holland District Council said that the new machines are ‘more reliable, secure and efficient’.
A spokesman said: “The 14 new machines, which cost a total of £88,500 including installation and ongoing maintenance, are designed to accept contactless and chip-and-pin card payment, as well as cash and via the APCOA connect online app.
“Works to install the new machines got underway at the start of March, and a mixture of solar and electric machines are now operational.
“The change follows feedback from residents about the user-friendliness of the previous machines, with the newly installed units easier to use, brightly lit and connected wirelessly to offer drivers the fastest possible transactions. They are also made from high security steel with anti-graffiti coating to reduce the risk of vandalism against them.
“The new machines require users to enter their vehicle registration number to purchase a ticket, before choosing their duration of stay and then having the option of paying via card or Apply and Google Pay, as well as cash and app.”
The district council say its part of ongoing improvement works which will include relining car parks to the new 2024 British Parking Association standard of 2.6m x 5m.
Coun Henry Bingham, South Holland District Council portfolio holder for assets and strategic planning, said: “I am pleased we have now got these new machines in place, providing users with a quicker, simpler and less restrictive experience when parking in South Holland.
“We are committed to providing quality, safe and straightforward car parking to our residents and visitors, and this investment is a key part to helping make these improvements.”
