A new NHS dentist is set to move into the former offices of the Spalding Voice.
An application has been submitted to South Holland District Council by JDSP Dental for units 1 and 2, 14-16 Winsover Road.
The applicant has been awarded a contract by NHS England Central Midlands to deliver NHS dental services.
The contract includes a commitment to urgent and routine care from 8am to 8pm, 365 days a year.
“Provision of new NHS dental services will help address the current shortfall in provision and support the future growth in the Spalding area,” says the supporting document.
“The proposed dental surgery can be expected to have patients entering and leaving the building continually through its opening hours, some of whom may not
otherwise come to Spalding.
“The proposed use will promote activity in the town centre and facilitate multi-use trips to the town centre.
“Provision of a dental surgery will complement and support the competitiveness of the town centre,” the document adds.
The application for change of use is supported by a letter from the NHS.
“The development has been put forward to support the delivery of the new contract awarded by NHS England, Midlands and East, Central Midlands to improve access to NHS general dental services in Lincolnshire,” says the letter from Jane Green
assistant contract manager for dental and optometry.
There has been a shortage of NHS dentists in the area since the closure of a practice which operated from the Johnson Hospital site.
The design and access statement also says the dental surgery would support the role and function of the town centre. The site is readily accessible and there is
parking available and it is served by public transport.
