New garden waste lorry hits the roads as council urges more to express an interest

South Holland residents who aren’t already on the waiting list for the district’s garden waste scheme are being urged to come forward after a third truck hit the roads earlier this month.

The new lorry means 5,000 more homes can be on the scheme, taking the total in the district to 15,000.

South Holland District Council says it’s in the process of contacting those already on the waiting list who have registered an interest.

A council spokesman said: “Residents who have already registered do not need to do so again, there is no need to call or re-book as their details will already be included in the expansion plans.

“If your details have changed since you have registered, please contact the Garden Waste team at [email protected].

“Any residents who have not yet registered an interest, but would like to join the popular garden waste scheme – are encouraged to do so on our website (here) to ensure they are included in the expansion.

“The Garden Waste team aim to contact residents via email and provide a unique time-restricted authorisation link offering the opportunity to join the Garden Waste Collection Service.

“Residents without access to email can still register an interest on our website (here) or by phoning our customer contact team (01775 761161).

“When a space then becomes available the Garden Waste Team would then contact via telephone or in writing.

“Whilst waiting on the register your interest list, residents should continue to dispose of your garden waste at the local Household Waste Recycling Centre or consider home composting.”

Last week, a Lincolnshire County councillor urged more people to use the scheme saying it would help the queues at Spalding tip, as well as visit the West Marsh Road site on ‘quieter days’.

Councillor Roger Gambba-Jones, portfolio holder for Environmental Services, said: “Can I please encourage all those residents who are interested but haven’t yet registered their interest in the service, to please do so.

“This will help us to better understand where the greatest demand is in the district and in turn how best to shape and grow our service in the future.”
