Narrow Division One lead for South Holland as Spalding Table Tennis League closes on completion

The Spalding and District League – sponsored by Vital Recruitment – has decided that the extended season to catch-up on matches will end next week (June 30).

Any matches still not played by then will be declared void.

Last week did see some action on the table, however.

In Division Two, with nothing riding on the results, three matches were conceded, while in Division One it was agreed that two singles and a doubles would be defaulted in favour of each of the leaders, South Holland and Bladerunners, so that neither would benefit.

There are, however, a number of games which will need to be played or Holland will take the title.

At present they are still one clear.

Blades’ Colin Vertigan played three games, two against JDM’s Phil Chandler and one with Jokers’ Guntars Briedes.

The first two were shared, given Chandler’s form a good result, and the latter went to Vertigan.

Holland’s John Gilbert took two points in his match with Outsiders to maintain their lead, but the teams still have seven and five points to play for respectively.

Away from league fixtures, the summer season continues and every table was occupied. The members switched about with a mix of singles and doubles so that it was a pleasure to play competitive games without the pressure of points resting on the result.

Tables will continue to be available for practice and those who wish to try the sport with support for those wishing to extend their experience.

The league meet from 7.30pm at the Castle Sports Complex and will be happy to see you.

There is a charge of £3 to cover costs.
