A motorist fined £550 probably wishes now that he’d stuck with hanging furry dice from his rear- view mirror.
Instead, the Spalding driver chose a metal knuckle duster, which is classed as an offensive weapon.
When police stopped 25-year-old Jack Marcroft and searched the car, they found the silver-coloured knuckle duster in a compartment.
Prosecutor Paul Wood told Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday: “He later explained in interview that he had originally hung it from the rear-view mirror but several weeks ago it had hit the windscreen, causing [the windscreen] to crack.”
Marcroft, of Fairview Way, pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon in public.
Mitigating, Helen Coney said: “This isn’t an offence that Mr Marcroft set out to commit. He didn’t realise it was an offence to have [the knuckle duster] in a public place.
“It did crack the windscreen when he went over a speed bump so he took it down.
“He had no intention to use it other than as a decoration.”
Marcroft was also ordered to pay a £220 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
