Men’s 1st team goes down 8-0 to university

UEA 8 Long Sutton Men’s 1st 0

Sutton travelled into Norfolk with a bare 11 players with skiing holidays and unavailability an ongolng issue.

They were hit by a rampant Uni team who used their fast and skilful play to good effect, and by half time had slotted in six goals.
The visitors had a rousing half time talk and for a long period they were able to contain the home team’s attacks.
With ten minutes remaining Sutton’s 11 men began to run out of steam and the university added two late goals.
A much better second half and the return of Sam Gray and Josh Baker to this weekend’s rearranged fixture against Cambs City 2nd team will be an added bonus.
Peter Worth, former East Representative to the National Hockey Competitions Committee, said: “Following Spalding’s second heavy defeat to Cambridge University 1st and with Long Sutton still having to play them, it should be noted that Uni were unfortunate to be relegated last season with a reorganisation of the top leagues.
“They are a team playing National League level hockey and have scored over 100 goals and sit unbeaten at the top of the table.
“Spalding put in a good performance on Saturday and Long Sutton will be hoping they can do the same.”
