Memorial gates in place at Fleet’s Anglia Motel ahead of Remembrance Sunday

Custom-made memorial gates have been put in place ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

The gates replace a pair which were stolen in August after being installed at the Anglia Motel in Fleet to remember those lost in conflicts.

Long time veteran fundraiser and hotel owner Harold Payne said the second set of gates cost around £5,000.

He is also set to plant 1,000 roses at the Fleet site ahead of the anniversary of the Armistice.

“It looks really nice and we are trying to make sure it’s ready for Sunday,” said Mr Payne.

The first set of gates, of a different design, were taken on August 28 this year and Mr Payne said he couldn’t believe someone would steal a memorial to veterans.
