Magpies boss Matt Cawthorn had mixed emotions after seeing his side share the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Oakham United Reserves in Saturday’s Peterborough League Division One clash.
Cawthorn was happy with his side’s performance, but felt they should have won the contest after creating the better chances against a visiting side who is he tipping for a top five finish.
The Long Sutton boss commented: “We should have won the game as we had the better chances.
“But it was a solid performance and everyone across the park played well.”
Long Sutton made a bright start to the contest as they looked to bounce back from last week’s opening day defeat at Wittering.
It was Cawthorn who fired his side ahead when Matty Oliver raced down the wing and picked out the player-boss who struck home from 20 yards.
However, the lead was short-lived as Oakham equalised five minutes later.
Both teams attacked well in an open contest with the Magpies coming closest to snatching victory.
Oliver sprinted away before his trickery created an opening for Cawthorn who blazed over the bar from 12 yards out.
