Keeper Leigh Overton was the big winner at Holbeach United’s end of season awards night on Saturday.
The loyal number one, who was one of just a few players to stay with the club after a mass exodus at the end of the previous season, won the prizes for manager’s player, players’ player and first team clubman of the year.
Striker Tom Waumsley walked away with the leading scorer gong, while Frazer Bayliss claimed the young player of the year award.
But it was Overton’s night – and he was delighted to be honoured by a club that he holds in the highest regard.
“I’d just like to say thanks to the club and fans for the awards,” said the shot stopper. “I’d also especially like to thank Glen Maddison (former boss), Mark Melson (former assistant boss) and Nick Bishop (former player/coach) for the season we had.
“I’d also like to thank Alan ‘Lefty’ Wright for my clubman award.
“I think we had a good season considering the circumstances and they can be proud of what they achieved.
“It was pleasing to receive the awards from the management team and the lads – and I really enjoyed this season as a whole.
“Holbeach is a great club to play for and there are some top people behind the scenes.”
For Holbeach’s promoted Reserve team, Cymon Lambe landed Omar Joof’s manager’s player of the season title, with veteran Dean Elston the players’ player.
Macauley Grimwood picked up their young player of the season title – and he also shared the top scorer prize with Tom Brooks.
Keeper Adam Kirk was named the reserve team’s clubman of the season, while Gary Chappell claimed the Tigers Social Club’s player of the year award.
And club stalwart Pete Cousins was honoured with the annual ‘special award’.
He was handed a bottle of whisky to mark a year that saw the Tigers name a stand at Carter’s Park after one of their most loyal members.
