Long Sutton suffer pair of goal flurries

Two goal flurries settled a bottom versus top clash in emphatic fashion in Division One North of the East Men’s League.

After going behind to an early goal from leaders Norwich City Seconds, Long Sutton Men hit back through William Taylor.

The hosts conceded twice more but when Luke Proctor scored, they were still very much in the match at 3-2 down.

However, four goals in 13 minutes pushed the visitors clear and, after Andy Shore had pulled one back, they grabbed three more in nine minutes to complete a 10-3 scoresheet.

Sutton Seconds were also caught out by a swift double in a 3-2 defeat at home to Cambridge South Thirds in Division Three North West. After falling behind, Oscar Jarvis equalised but two goals in a minute from the visitors proved crucial. Edmund White struck a second for Sutton but it was not enough to avoid a 3-2 defeat.

Sutton Thirds managed to put the brakes on St Ives Fourths after falling 4-0 behind in the first half. The visitors scored only one more in their 5-0 Division Five North West win.

A late consolation strike from Jasmin Gaborit-Carter was Sutton Ladies Seconds’ only consolation in a 6-1 defeat at Division Four North West leaders Pelicans Seconds.

Josh Baker made a game of things when Sutton took on St Ives in the EH Mixed Trophy on Sunday. However, it was not enough to turn around a 2-1 defeat.
