Local charity needs your furniture donations and purchases

A local charity is urging you to think of them when you’re getting rid of unwanted furniture rather than giving it away online.

The Meadows, which was formerly part of Age UK, raises money for its Sir John Van Geest Day Centre by collecting and selling furniture from their Pinchbeck and Holbeach warehouses.

The funds raised helps provide the elderly visitors to the centre with food and entertainment as they get out of their homes and mingle.

General manager of The Meadows, Liz Walmsley said: “The furniture side of things has always done really well in this area, but it’s just slowed down recently.

“People have always been fantastic with their donations and then we sell really good quality and maintained furniture from the warehouses.

“Anybody can come in and pick up a bargain and all of the proceeds go into the day centre to provide extra services for those we serve.”

A group of volunteers look after the furniture side of the project and they have their own van to pick up any furniture from people’s homes for free.

“A lot of people put stuff on Facebook,” said Liz’s husband Richard who is one of the many volunteers. “What we’re doing is hopefully serving the local community.

“We make sure everything is of a good standards.

“Beds seem particularly sought after. We’re always being asked for them.”

The Flaxmill Building and Unit 33 on the Fleet Road Industrial Estate is open from Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 3.30pm.

You can contact Richard if you’d like something picking up on 07946 837133.
