Lindum victory steers Long Sutton closer to safety

Long Sutton boosted their hopes of survival in South Lincs and Border League Premier Division on Saturday with a nervy three-wicket victory at Lincoln Lindum 2nd.

Sutton won the toss and inserted their hosts into bat – a decision that proved the right one.

They ran through the Lindum line-up for just 85 in 34.1 overs, with only Aidan Lockwood (10), Will Taylor (15), Harry Wells (16) and Thomas Lea (16) managing double figures.

Rob Simpson was the star of the show for Sutton as he bagged fine figures of 5-10 from 9.1 overs.

He was ably supported by spinner Jake Burton (3-35) and Rav Sangha (1-23), while Dan Oldfied chipped in with a run-out.

It was never going to be a straightforward run chase, though. Top four Phil Barnes (8), Steve Skoulding (8), Jimmy Wright (7) and Oldfield went cheaply, but a vital 25 from Adam Wright moved

Sutton to within touching distance of glory.

Although they also lost Matt Bull (4) and Raj Sangha (0), Rav Sangha (7 not out) and Burton (8 not out) saw them home.

The win moves Sutton 18 points clear of the bottom two. They are now above Spalding 2nd, who were thrashed by Bourne 2nd at the Memorial Field.

Town bowled their visitors out for 199, but were then knocked over for just 56 themselves.

Already-relegated Moulton Harrox were also defeated soundly.

They managed just 56 batting first against Grantham 2nd at Broad Lane, with Joseph Broomfield (15) and Will Naylor (14) top scoring.

Grantham knocked the runs off in just 8.1 overs, despite wickets from Alin Carter (1-31), Broomfield (1-17) and Naylor (1-7).

In Division One, Long Sutton 2nd suffered an eight-wicket loss against Cavaliers at Paradise Field.

Jeremy Smith made an unbeaten 32 off 110 balls as Sutton posted a somewhat pedestrian 109-7 batting first.

The visitors reached their target in 26.1 overs, as David Kennedy anchored the innings with a fine 63 not out from 72 balls.

Cavaliers closed on 110-2, with Alex Canham (1-31) and Ian Morris (1-30) the wicket takers.

In Division Two, Grantham 4th conceded against Pinchbeck.
