Lightning’s Egham hopes struck down at Melton

Spalding Lightning lost in the semi-final of the Egham Trophy against Wellingborough at Melton Mowbray on Sunday.
Lightning were hoping to go a step further after they lost at the same stage last season but Wellingborough started the better of the two teams and quickly opened a 25-shot lead. Although Lightning battled hard to get back to within eight shots, Wellingborough fought off the revival to win 84-70.
Rink scores: Jean Patterson, Karen Martin, Martin Spencer and Dominic McVittie won 23-18.
Stephen Harris, Louise Harris, Chelsea Spencer and Mathew Orrey lost 20-25.
Ruby Hill, Tracy Philpott, Simon Lilley and Jordan Philpott lost 13-18
Kevin Ekins, Carole Nunney, Annie Dunham and Graham Smith lost 14-23.
qSpalding Indoor Bowls Club were at Boston on Saturday for their penultimate game of the season in the Mixed County League.
Spalding started slowly and were 25-19 behind at five ends, which was extended to 47-33 after ten ends and 71-44 after 15. Boston eventually won 87-61 and 12-2 on match points.
Spalding did manage one winning rink, skipped by David Nunney, with Carole Nunney, George Deaton and Betty Deaton who won 19-17.
Spalding remain top of the County South Division and in a good position to reach the county final.
