LETTERS – What am I to do with brown bin?

I had a contract for two garden waste bins with South Holland District Council until March 2026 when I wished to return one bin and continue with only one I was told one bin would be collected within ten days.

But imagine my surprise when I received this email

“Following an update to our terms and conditions, we no longer collect garden bins back from properties that no longer want or need them. All properties that have a garden bin now own them permanently.

“We would recommend that you store your bin somewhere at the house, ready to be used again if you ever need it.

Kind regards,

The Garden Waste Team – South Holland District Council.”

So I am now the proud owner of a unusable wheelie bin clogging up my premises and soon to be joined by another four of various colours, as SHDC wants to increase all recycling.

The recycling centre won’t take them as they show an owner’s name ie SHDC and how do I get a wheelie bin to the recycle centre?

Why are they not recycling the brown wheelie bins? How many more will they disown in the future?

So what do I do with it?

Why are they not reused?

Are they going to leave damaged one behind when replacing them?

So much for recycling.
