LETTERS – We need to address speeding

Well done to Neil Bingham (letter The Voice September 19) regarding speeding motorists along Park Road in Spalding.
Believe me he is not alone in highlighting the absolute idiots driving around Spalding these days abusing the speed limits as if they are not there!
It would seem that speeding motorists are not aware as to why there are speed limits on roads.
There are many reasons but many choose not to adhere to the law, hence this letter.
There are main roads in and around Spalding where speeding motorists need to be educated to obey the law, primarily to avoid accidents that are just waiting to happen.
I have contacted the police who it seems are so underfunded and cannot spare the resources for doing speed checks.
I was given the details of the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership who try to reduce the number of accidents but are restricted by Department of Transport protocols.
Areas of speeding motorists can be monitored (one every three to five years I am told) to see if these areas meet the protocols for speed cameras etc.
I was disgusted that Low Road was checked in 2022 and not due to be looked at for another three to five years.
What planet are these councillors, police and road safety partnerships on for heaven’s sake?
With two roundabouts being reconstructed and causing many delays thus annoying motorists.
They seek alternative routes, Low Road being the shortest route into town has been used extensively and the 30mph abused to its excess. The reader last week mentioned two junctions, Low Road has three and a zebra crossing.
As I was getting nowhere with the authorities I contacted the local community speed watch organiser Coun Jan Whitborn to see if we could set some checks up in Spalding using volunteers.
I was so disappointed to go on a training course to find that I was the only person from Spalding to attend.
We need three volunteers to run a speed check so I appeal to those who can assist me to educate motorists to adhere to the speed limit.
Come on a course, find out what it’s all about and then we can assist the authorities without punishing motorists by doing random community speed checks.
