LETTERS – Tories taking a reckless gamble

While our county is one of the biggest in the country our policemen and women are doing their best with the resources they have, but is the thin blue line being stretched too far?

The Conservatives are taking a reckless gamble with people’s safety by slashing our police force.

Chief constables from around the country have warned that policing under the Tories is at breaking point.

Theresa May promised to protect the police, but instead she has slashed 21,000 police officers.

The Tories have cut 89 police officers and 36 police community support officers from our county of Lincolnshire.

Public disorder is up by 56 per cent, weapons possession is up 45 per cent and violence up 44 per cent.

The Tories have broken their promise to protect the police front line, taking thousands of police off the beat and leaving local communities like ours in Spalding and the surrounding areas exposed.

By cutting vital public services, the Tories have created the conditions in which crime can thrive, leaving law abiding people, who try and do the right thing across the country more vulnerable to violence and harm.

  • It doesn’t have to be this way. Labour will increase officers by 10,000.
  • Oppose deep Tory cuts to the police
  • Champion community policing
  • Give police the resources they need.

We need to rebuild our high streets by building a better Britain.
