In these days of inflation in double figures, can Sainsbury’s explain why, over the last five weeks, the price of the new repackaged instant mashed potato by Sainsbury’s has been increased by the astronomical figure of 122 per cent when priced per gram and the even more astronomical figure of 145 per cent when priced per serving?
Is this to level up some of the profit reduction on the products included in the current Aldi price match promotion? Or does Sainsbury’s think we are such fools that we cannot calculate a price increase when we see it, albeit that the new packaging would seem to be a smoke and mirrors attempt to confuse us?
If this is happening to the simple instant mash, how many other products on Sainsbury’s shelves have had the same kind of apparent underhand price increases applied to them?
Perhaps, like Sainsbury’s fruit, we are being squeezed till the pips squeak.
