LETTERS – Rest in peace Geoff

During the 1976 Summer Olympic Games at Montreal in Canada, Geoff Capes and I spent more than a few hours together on the pub circuit after he had finished competing, although he didn’t drink much.
He was interested in the fact that I had studied at the University of Exeter for four years.
I was a fan of most sports but when Geoff Capes allowed me to spend so much time with him, I became hooked on the idea of the Olympic Games.
He was pleased to learn that I was one of the few Olympic Torch bearers who carried the flame from Ottawa to Montreal.
Since then I have volunteered thousands of hours at sporting events including the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London thanks to Geoff Capes.
Please rest in peace, Mr Capes.
