LETTERS – Photo tells of ‘the missing’

No-one is happier that there is now a memorial to the US airmen in Lutton.

These young men died in the hope of peace and harmony for all of mankind, so the choice of yet another bench costing a few £100 is questionable when it appears that thousands of pounds are spent on ‘self-promoting’ publications by one of the ‘parties’ involved.

On May 8, which was the 80th anniversary of VE Day where we paid homage to the missing, we should also include the creators of this memorial project for which none of this would have happened.

These are the people who put in 95 per cent of the work including a fully costed, fully funded (of over £4,000) and had approved planning permission for an inscribed granite memorial on Lutton green.

There were also plans for wheelchair access with paving laid out in an aircraft formation (of the time) for children to learn from.

As usual though, some desire sole credit and grab their moment of glory displaying pride in ‘their’ work.

Thank you for the photograph which really does tell of the ‘missing’.
