There were many reasons why I decided to stand for election to the local council, the main one being that I feel I have so much to offer the local community.
As a hard and dedicated worker, I’m one for getting on with the job and getting things done. I’m also a listener and happy to work with my residents to fight their cause and address their concerns.
I feel it was devastating for everyone with the sudden passing of Angela Newton and I would have rather joined the council under different circumstances.
However, having known Angela, I feel confident she would have put any political differences aside and appreciated what I aim to achieve. She has made my job very difficult as she’s a hard act to follow. All I can do is promise people to do my very best.
I have been a local resident for many years and whilst I do not live in the ward, I don’t see that as an issue.
It’s all about electing someone who just gets on with the job and does the right thing.
I’m not a politician, I’m a people’s person.
I hadn’t been a councillor for 12 hours before I got stuck in and started to tackle local problems and concerns. That’s what I promised when people voted for me and I will not let up.
I have proposed a memorial tree within the ward, dedicated to Angela’s memory.
I understand that they may be larger memorials planned but I feel something within the ward she loved is really important and I have received a great deal of encouragement from local residents.
I feel a small tribute on her patch is crucial – it’s something that people will see every day on their way to work or school, a small reminder of the hard work she put in.
I have also started case studies for parking restrictions on several dangerous junctions along with some large trees that require urgent attention.
Some might think I’ll run out of steam eventually but it’s my intention to prove them wrong. I’m elected to do a job and that’s exactly what I intend to do.
Bringing back the Flower Parade for 2023 is just an example of what I’m capable of doing and that’s going to be a huge success for Spalding.
