LETTERS – Full statement is required

We sympathise with Spalding Market stall holders – it’s looking like South Holland District Council does not want the Spalding markets to continue, they seem to be putting as many obstacles in the way of the stall holders as possible.

I do hope SHDC has carried out full health and safety checks? Have they offered them training on erecting the stalls? If they have to buy their own stalls any financial help been offered? They also have a duty of care to the market stall holders.

It’s been stated they have not spoken to the stall holders – that is showing more contempt to them – talk to them, use their knowledge, I’m sure their expertise would help to see the market have more footfall.

To lose even more stall holders would be a result for SHDC – they then can close it down and put the blame elsewhere.

Council leader Lord Porter said: “The council is committed to do as much as it reasonably can for the market” – read into that what you like!

As stated before, the centre is slowly becoming a ghost town. Who would want to invest in a business in Spalding?

To close the market down, is another nail in the coffin, as the old saying goes.

We hope that local MP Sir John Hayes’ letters will help to make a difference!
A full statement from SHDC is required.
