LETTER: Thank you to all

Fingers crossed with the first battle won, we have nearly won the war.

We are all looking forward to Christmas now, and hope the Lincolnshire County Councillors will endorse the decision to opt for the Trojan Wood route in January, which does not involve anyone losing their home.

That is all we have ever asked, and the people of Spalding have been wholeheartedly behind us.

We hope we are not premature, but we could not let this momentous decision pass without publicly thanking one or two people.

Angela Newton has worked tirelessly, from the day she first discovered homes were to be bulldozed, and over the past ten months she has supported us and, like the committee in Lincoln, believes that demolishing homes is not appropriate when there are alternatives.

We appreciate her time and unending support over the past 10 months.

Liz Sneath has also been beavering away to help us and also spoke on behalf of the condemned residents on Monday.

Thank you Liz, we particularly loved your remarks around our Dunkirk spirit – so true, we are a very close unit.

John Hayes has also been very helpful and supportive and despite being in the middle of an election campaign, found the time to arrange for us to meet the Secretary of State.

He has understood our fears and concerns, and has been extremely helpful with our campaign.

And the townsfolk of Spalding, your support with our petition was much appreciated, and duly noted by Lincoln.

We were not just a few voices. We could have not have managed to get the council to agree to look at the alternatives again, without all of you.

Thank you does not seem enough but it is heartfelt, and we can now look forward to a happier Christmas with our families.

Catherine and Frank Roberts on behalf of the residents of Bourne Road
