LETTER: Spalding is not depressing

I was sad to read Mrs Harold’s letter (The Voice, August 17) saying how depressing she found Spalding.

Having moved here five years ago (perhaps for the good value properties in the Fens) she says that there are great shops in the town.

How right she is – two department stores, quite a few banks, national chains and small independent traders which, together with an attractive riverside and lovely coffee shops, make Spalding a great place to visit.

I have lived here since 1975, and although Spalding and surrounding towns have undoubtedly changed (where has not?) it is still a pleasant, safe and welcoming environment.

We also have two busy market days – something of a rarity nowadays. So do come into Spalding, take a ride on the water-taxi, enjoy a drink overlooking the river, admire the Spalding in Bloom flowers and buy from our great shops.
