LETTER: No more than hollow promises

I read with interest the letter ‘Pinchbeck Fields Not Anymore’ as published recently which made some salient points to which, as a resident of over 40 years living directly opposite the said development site, I could identify with to some degree.
The few points I would wish to make are in relation to the issues which occur once a development is given the green light and to which some of your readers may have likewise experienced.
In the case of the development in question the developer is listed as being one of biggest in the UK so one would expect a degree of understanding for any nearby affected parties.
Sadly this looks like it will not be the case as just one month into work commencing I believe there have been breaches of the construction management plan agreements which have necessitated contact with the local authorities.
Also, prior to final planning approval being given, issues occurred during on-site demolition work one being with a public right of way which crosses the site – it was closed without permission.
Perhaps I should have been somewhat wary for when discovering who had purchased the site it transpired they had previously incurred a large fine for infringing environmental regulations two years earlier.
So the shiny well-worded developer consultation documentation sent to all nearby affected parties appears to be no more than hollow promises.
In the mean time I will mourn the loss of the foxes, frogs, bats and hedgehogs we once had and await the arrival of the quote ‘Attractive new residential community….’ who have bought into that dream.
