As a concerned, London-born, extremely happy resident of Spalding who has enjoyed nine contented years in a wonderful Lincolnshire community, I must speak out.
Many of my European friends are feeling totally rejected by our democratic decision to leave the European Union.
My friends are truly tearful and very worryingly fearful about their families and futures.
Those who have never left our shores have absolutely no idea of the anxiety they are facing and how devastating this decision feels to this sector of our community.
Before the referendum I spoke at length to my friends, Polish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Portuguese and English. We all understood that our population is expanding far quicker than we are able to cope with, hundreds of thousands of people on a relatively small island.
We are not building – we need housing, medical care and educational facilities, without this expansion overcrowding would be inevitable.
I celebrate the people of Spalding, with a vibrant High Street, good levels of employment and our children excelling at school.
We have a duty of care to each other now and always.
There will be troubled times ahead, but we will face them together as colleagues, neighbours and friends but most of all as the people of Spalding.
Let us lead by example.
