LETTER: Iceland should be ashamed

On a recent trip to Iceland, Wisbech, I noticed a pack of sausages and the sell-by date was that day. I spoke to a member of staff to see if they would be reducing the price, only to be told no.

He explained if they had not been reduced with other items first thing in the morning, they would not be reduced at all.

I asked what they would do with them as they (legally) would not be able to sell them past their sell-by date.

He said they would be thrown away.

I was stunned. He said it was company policy and he had no choice.

I asked if he would give them to me rather than chuck them away and he said he was not allowed to do that either. They had to be thrown away.

Iceland should hang their head in shame.
